Michael Gove has apologised “unreservedly” after comparing being interviewed by presenter John Humphrys with going into Harvey Weinstein’s bedroom.

The environment secretary was taking part in a special edition of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme in front of a live audience when he made the remarks.

He said in such an interview, “you hope to emerge with your dignity intact”.

Mr Gove said it had been a “clumsy attempt at humour”.
